A Haunting Question

Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?

It's a haunting question, isn't it? A question that gets right in your face and sneers. A question that reproves and chastens. A question that demands an answer. And oftentimes, a question with a very sad answer.

Our answers to this question are often forged in times of trial, despair, and anguish. When life is lollipops and posies, this question seems so simple and so . . . easy. However, when it comes down to it, if we were honest with ourselves, we'd have to answer this question with a shame-faced, "No."

How does not believing what we believe to be really real effect our Christianity! For instance . . .

  • do you believe that when you lie, you are not speaking God's language, but Satan's? (John 8:44)
  • do you believe that when you sin, you are committing cosmic treason against God?
  • do you believe that you are in a war? (Ephesians 6:12)
  • do you believe that Jesus is coming again?
  • do you believe that you are powerless apart from God? (John 15:5)
  • do you believe that if you murmur, you will damage your testimony? (Philippians 2:14-16)
  • do you believe that God is able to begin what he began in you? (Philippians 1:6)

So, what do you think. Is reality "real" to you, or is your perception of reality in need of a little assistance?

The Truth Project was amazing. We went through it here with the college group a couple years back - vastly thought-prompting, entertaining, engaging, but (most importantly, I think) above all convicting. Are you just watching through it now or have you seen it all already?
